The wooded area of Birkhoven surrounds Dierenpark Amersfoort and borders Soest's Korte Duinen. It is characterised by a large pond and a forest pool. The extensive beech avenues and rhododendron valley bear witness to Birkhoven's past as a country estate, with the English landscape style clearly evident. A variety of tree species thrive here, including beech, oak, Scots pine, Douglas fir and larch. Some of the imposing Scots pines are over 150 years old.
